Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the relation between old-aged spousal caregiver¡¯s care-transition types(remained not caregiving, started caregiving, continued caregiving and stopped caregiving) and their physical and psychological health and examine the moderating effect of social support(child support and friend support). Using data from the 2nd-6th, we estimated a Generalized Estimating Equation model.
Results indicated that male who started caregiving and continued caregiving and female who started caregiving and stopped caregiving were less physically healthier than noncaregivers.
Next, male who started caregiving and stopped caregiving and female who stopped caregiving had significant results. However, there were difference that male were radically depressed when caregiving started. Furthermore, interaction effects between care-transition types and resources were different by gender. It showed that both male and female spousal caregivers needed fitted intervention depending on care-transition types. We concluded with implication of these main finding.
